Would you Make a Great Life Coach?

I’m not sure what led me into wanting to be a life coach. Maybe I saw an ad before understanding how my subconscious mind works. Maybe someone told me that I sound like a life coach or should be one. Whatever the reason, one day, I researched what a life coach was, and I remember thinking, “I can get paid to be me?” I couldn’t believe that what I had been doing for many years was an actual career. No sooner had I become a life coach did people start asking me what I thought of other life coaches. The truth is that I didn’t know of any life coaches (because I didn’t know that career existed) until I was already a coach. The only life coach that I had heard of was Tony Robbins, but I thought he was just a motivational speaker.  And now as a coach, the only show that I watch that even has a life coach character in it is The Flash.

Life coaching is a fast-growing occupation and for one reason or another, many of us feel like we’d make a great life coach.  So, what makes one sure that coaching is right for them? You see, you want to evaluate these questions first before spending $10,000 + to become a certified life coach and finding out during a coaching exercise that you actually aren’t ready or would be better suited as a therapist , teacher, or somewhere else where you can share your knowledge. There were over 30 of us in the classroom of the coaching institute where I certified. Coaches from all around the world came. What makes one decide that they even want to be a coach?

There are many reasons to become a coach. On The Flash, the character Ralph, aka Elongated Man, eventually becomes a life coach after hitting what he feels is rock bottom. He went from being a person who took advantage of others to a person who takes advantage of himself and seizes his own opportunities. Quite a few coaches are like Ralph because they emerged from a low point of their life as a new person with a more evolved state of consciousness. They may want to assist others with this process or want to share what they know. Other coaches are more like me: lows were definitely overcome through divine intervention and the awareness of this is what led to many wins thereafter. These types of coaches have been unknowingly coaching themselves throughout life. They too, desire to share their wisdom with others.

So, which one is the better coach? The better coach is the one that you are. As long as you can coach from the unique perspective of your truth from your state of consciousness, you will continue to improve your life and successfully assist others on their journey to more happiness and abundance.  But, if you have a hard time speaking and being your truth in front of others, then you may need to hire a coach before committing to being one. Great coaches continue to work on themselves and incorporate the new insight and knowledge that is gained. Great coaches know when to seek assistance and are acquiring new knowledge habitually. Coaching is a lifestyle, so great coaches are always coaching. No, you can’t separate the friend from the coach or the spouse from the coach.  So, if it feels right for you to embark on this journey, go for it and remember that “Once a coach, always a coach.”  May you take the proper steps inward towards being a great one.
